Stéphanie is a great comics autor ! She is also the most funny girl of the world ! My advice : if you feel a little sad and need a big laugh, have a look on her drawings and your day will become sunny immediatly !

A good sense of derision might save humanity !

Crochet garlands everywhere…

Obsession ?
Not really !
But those things are so addictives !
Handmade crochet garlands by Chicsochic.

Dollita…

English Corner

Helene Duhault, aka Esthy. is an exceptionally gifted young girl! She makes delicious poupées, which she carves and makes up with an admirable dexterity and a talent! Her charming custom dollies have a certain royal feeling. Could it be her frequent visits to the Palais de Versailles that inspire her creations of glamour and lace?

Helene was born on February 12, 1981, in Ile de France of parents who are teachers, she is their first child. When Helene was five years old, her parents left France fora few years in order to teach abroad, after that she spent 6 years in Bogotá, Colombia, and then…

“I have intense and happy memories of this period, in spite of the heavy environment there during those years. It is a country full of richness, first coming from the people there, always smiling and nice. ”

Helene then traveled much, including trips to Guatemala, Ecuador, and Venezuela.

In 1992, her parents settle in Tunisia, in La Marsa. It was a radical change for Helene, and made her adolescence complicated. She encountered problems and at the end of five years, she asked to leave. At 16, she found herself in France for the first time in 11 years “it is not too much to say that I did not know my country anymore”. Spending time in Vence and Alpes-Maritimes, Helene took a taste of independence.

One year later her parents joined her and settled in Versailles. In 1999, Helene received a Baccalaureate degree in Literature and Spanish Civilization. It was about that time that she started to collect dolls of artists in vinyl (Anette Himstedt, Sissel Skille, Marschollek…)

In 2001, she engaged with the Castle of Versailles for the weekends and she has never left…

In 2005 , she and her partner, Lulla, discovered the Pullip dolls and then Ball Jointed Dolls. Within a year she was also collecting Blythe.

“The Ball jointed dolls were a revelation for me. I always liked to draw, to paint, and to make a whole ‘artistic’ heap of things, and as soon as I had an unpainted head in my hands (Juri 2005 of Ceberus Project) I could not prevent myself from exerting my ‘talents above‘… the result was rather ugly, but it was my first and I was very content with it. After that, I continued to work at it, for me it is something of very satisfying, even if sometimes it is a true headache. Two years ago, I began taking make-up commissions. I was charmed to see all the different head molds. ”

Today Esthy still takes make-up commissions , but she feels that discovering Blythe has allowed her to exert her creativity still more.

“For the past three years I have seen the most dreadfully brilliant Blythe customizations by famous people, and it is by seeing what certain people could do that was born the desire for carving, to make up, to accessorize these funny vintage dolls."

Violet Pie, toy artist

Jennifer Novack, aka Violet Pie is very much involved in this extraordinary world that we call the Dollyword, and thanks to her talent we could see growing such magical and fairy beings, that she create by needle felting or with felt…

By the fact that we are in Santa’s season I had the envy to ask her to talk about her, her background, her creativity, well her life ! She kindly accepted, so here's a short portrait of this sweet Lady and artist…

- I grew up in Midwest, USA, in a family of arty people...my mother was a tap dancer and singer, and my father was an artist and jazz musician. So lots of music and dancing as I grew up!
I followed my mother in dancing, and was a ballet teacher for a few years before going back to college for art.
In art school, I met a guy, another artist, who wanted more than anything to go to graduate school in New York. So we did. I lived there for five years, graduated with a Master's degree in painting, worked as an artist's assistant, painted murals, broke up with the guy, and eventually returned to the Wisconsin...

Now, I paint murals here to make a living, but I don't enjoy it so much anymore, because I've found something i like much better...dolls! My interest in Blythe began when I read an article about Gina Garan, and I went crazy...became obsessed with her.

It's then that I started to make little animals from a Japanese pattern book that I tracked down on the internet.

Now it's a passion, and almost a livelihood...I began experimenting with needle felting, and found it to be the best way for me to create these little creatures that inhabited my imagination...and they continue to evolve. I now like combining mohair fur with the felting, and have lots of new plans and ideas.

So now, after all that serious art schooling, and art history, I've become a toy maker instead! I'm happier than ever because I feel I've found my voice as an artist.

You know sometimes when you feel a bit far from yourself, but then you find something simple and graceful that gives you enough energy and inspiration for a good good day… That's the kind of magic i love in life !
Some days are more sad than others -because of the world. Today is a "petite fleur bleue" day !
Apprendre le langage des fleurs !

Sometimes i feel like i'm floating in a very creative world composed by multiple talented persons!

AND,

Humour and joy are always an alternative…

Saffy has been honored !

We had the great pleasure to see this picture honored as "Model of the month" for May 2008, in the blythe in skipper fashion group, on flickr, managed by eddopus Complex !

So, to thanks everybody there, Saffy, the model of the month had to wear in that honor, a beautiful real diva dress that I made especially for that type of event !

Oh, and in the portrait that Eddo made of us to describe my universe, he said that you could smell some Chanel in my pictures… He's right, my perfume is CHANCE… by Chanel ! :)

Cheers !
Merci

A new dollie group on Flickr…

I wanted to see some hippie and cool dolls, so I had the idea to create the "Dolls for Peace and Love" pool… You know, a group where we could share those very vintage mod dolls as well as dolls wearing hippie style clothes… This is not really a manifest or neither a fight for anything, except the fact that I really believe (maybe you could think that I'm innocent, but believe me I'm not!) that we could say something, really something peacefull and fresh with our doll's pictures… I think, however, that most of the Blythers (oh, not all of course), but most of them, are in that type of philosophy ! I mean, of course if you're involved in dolls, it does not means, that you're not conscious ! But, it might means that you're in a sweet dimension of consciousness !

So join here :

Keep smiling !

When I was a young girl…

When I was a young girl I had over 300 dolls ! Yes that's true ! But I had one favorite doll, wich was a Gégé pause doll, named Mily ! And I had a dream at that time… That my Mily would have a fantastic wardrobe and a carry case to put her in… As my parents, my sister and I, were traveling a lot, I had to take planes… One day, in a trip from Paris to Marrakech, I was an Unccompaniated Minor, sitting next to another Unaccompaniated minor (I was almost 3 years old and the girl next sit was very much older, maybe 6 or 7!), I had a sort of flash ! She was the owner of my dream… She had a doll ( a Skipper I believe) in a case with tons of outfits and fantastic accessories…

Now I have a young girl, my daughter Elissa is 3 actually… So I realised that sweet dream for her, and found a carry case (well many more than one, in fact:)), two wonderful Blythe… And I make tons of outfits for them !

Now, you know the Truth !

But… you know what ? I've many more dreams, actually…

Have a beautiful day…
